Build the Future: Career Planning and Development for Secondary School Students

On June 12 2018, at Landmark Business Center Junior Achievement Azerbaijan hosted a meeting with professionals from different business sectors with the financial support of Chevron Khazar LTD. The meeting was organized as a final stage of the project titled “Build the Future: Career Planning and Development for Students” which was held during the academic year 2017-2018. The event has been implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic and “Məktəblinin Dostu” project. The main goal of the project was to educate students about potential career and job opportunities in different labour markets and prepare youth for their future careers.

At the meeting, 130 selected students which are active in the project’s training phase in 15 schools from different districts of Baku participated.

Moreover, Head of Representative Office of Chevron Corporation in Azerbaijan, Bakhtiyar Akhundov, Orkhan Abbasov from Ministry of Education, Manager of “Məktəblinin Dostu” project Rustam Aghayev, Senior HR Specialist Narmin Rahimli at PMD Group LLC., Jasur Hasanov from Social Innovation Lab., Fidan Tofidi and Irada Mammadova from BARAMA Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, Ceyhun Atayev from PASHA Bank, Emin Azizov from PASHA Insurance, Farhad Malikli from Deloitte Azerbaijan, Hokuma Karimova from YARAT Contemporary Art Space, Matin Asgar from Baku Law Center, Doctor Bakhtiyar Aliyev from Smile Dental clinic and Doctor Aygun Babayev from Berlin Charité clinic participated and shared their own experiences with middle school children.

The meeting was organized in two parts. At the first part, the business professionals shared information about fundamental business and economic concepts, explored career interests and opportunities, innovations in modern agriculture and developed work-readiness skills within the project participants. The second part of the meeting was arranged “world café” format. Moreover, the project aimed to help school children to estimate their strengths and weaknesses, to determine their interests, to understand the world of work and to improve personal skills needed to achieve career and lifelong learning success.

At the end of the meeting, Executive Director of Junior Achievement Azerbaijan, Sevinj Mammadova and Project Coordinator of “Məktəblinin Dostu”, Leyla Gurbanova awarded certificates to students.
